Capri is a destination that needs no introduction. Its natural beauty, upscale boutiques, and cliffside charm attract travelers from around the world. During our recent visit, we stayed at Hotel La Palma Capri, a centrally located boutique property offering immediate access to the heart of Capri town. While there were highlights worth noting, a few aspects didn’t quite meet our expectations for a luxury stay.
Welcome Experience
Upon arrival, we were greeted with a thoughtful welcome orientation in the lobby lounge. Seated with a cool refreshment, we immediately felt attended to and welcomed, which set a lovely tone for check-in.
Our Room: Deluxe Room with Balcony
We stayed in a Deluxe Room featuring a king-sized bed, a small balcony, and a compact table with chairs. The room’s interior was stylish and comfortable, but unfortunately, the balcony overlooked nearby residential buildings and active construction. This significantly disrupted the peaceful atmosphere we had hoped for and made it difficult to enjoy any time outside. If you're envisioning serene views of the Mediterranean, this may not be the best fit.
Location & Accessibility
If proximity to Capri’s town center and high-end shopping is your priority, La Palma wins big. The hotel is ideally situated for walking to restaurants, bars, and boutiques, making it easy to explore the island’s social scene on foot. However, it’s worth noting that there are no sea views from the hotel, and beach access is not on site. While guests can access La Palma’s affiliated beach club, it’s located far from the hotel (you must take a car), which made it inconvenient enough that we chose not to go.
Pool, Spa, and Amenities
The rooftop restaurant and bar was a standout; vibrant atmosphere, elegant décor, and excellent service made for a lovely evening. The daily breakfast at Gennaro’s (included in our stay) was equally impressive. From a generous buffet to a full à la carte menu, we never felt limited in choices. The staff here, especially, made mornings something to look forward to.
The pool, however, was a letdown. It was small and in need of updates, with very limited seating, which would make peak-season lounging almost impossible. While the pool bar service was wonderful, the views portrayed online were not reflective of reality.
The spa was cozy but professionally run, and the treatments were excellent. The gym was compact, housing only a few pieces of equipment; fine for a quick workout, but not for those hoping for variety or space.
Final Thoughts
La Palma Capri has its strengths, particularly the central location, attentive service, and standout breakfast offerings. But for those seeking iconic Capri views, expansive amenities, or a relaxing pool scene, there may be better options on the island. We found ourselves wishing we had chosen a hotel with a more scenic outlook and a better-designed outdoor experience.
Pros & Cons Chart
Pros | Cons |
Very central location in Capri town | No ocean or scenic views |
Beautiful rooftop restaurant & bar | Balcony overlooked construction and residences |
Outstanding breakfast service at Gennaro’s | Pool is small, outdated, and overcrowded |
Welcoming arrival and lobby staff | Beach club access is off-site and inconvenient |
Spa services were excellent | Gym is extremely small and limited |
Final Verdict
Rating: 4 / 5
While La Palma delivers on location and service, it falls short in views, relaxation, and recreation—key pillars for a luxury Capri getaway. For first-time visitors eager to explore the town center, it’s a convenient base. But for a more scenic, relaxing retreat, consider alternatives with better outdoor offerings.
